1. How much are renewals?
$80.00 for two-year renewals. If you are late, call the office to verify the amount of the late fee.
2. Can I transfer my license to another state?
Probably. At the time of printing, we have reciprocity with 27 states. Call the Board of the state to which you will be moving to ask them about their procedures. Save yourself a lot of headaches. Get your new license before you move.
3. Can I work in a cosmetology shop?
Yes, if a barber establishment license has been issued to this cosmetology shop. Barbers may work only in an shop/salon that has a barber establishment license. A cosmetology shop may hold a shop license from both the Board of Cosmetology and the Board of Barbers.
4. Can I hire a cosmetologist?
Yes, if your barber shop/salon has been issued a cosmetology establishment license. A cosmetologist can only work in an shop/salon that has a cosmetology establishment license. A barber shop can also hold a cosmetologist establishment license.
5. Can the shop be inspected if no barbers are present?
Yes, if the shop has a barber establishment license and is open, it can be inspected!!!
6. Can I work while I'm waiting to take my examination?
No!!!
7. My license is late, how long before my file is closed?
Your file will be closed five years after the expiration date. To be relicensed you will have to take the examination again. You will not have to go back to school. You MAY NOT be barbering while your license is lapsed.
8. Is there a retired status for my license?
No. There is no provision for this in the statutes.
9. Do you send renewal notices?
No. We do not send renewal notices. It is your responsibility to know when the license is due and send in your renewal on time.
10. When is my license due?
Personal licenses are due on the expiration date printed on the license (your birthday)
Establishment licenses are due June 30 of each year.
